Over the last few years Apple has created two pools of MacBook Pro machines, a lower more affordable set, and a more powerful but more expensive set. In the case of the former, the current 16-inch MacBook Pro is only available as an x86 Intel model. So what would that leave for this week’s WWDC announcement? Assuming that there is an announcement (those runes again), there are two obvious gaps in the MacBook portfolio, and one piece of information that has yet to be announced. These will be the machines that ship with the mini-LED screens, and potentially the new chassis design.

If that’s the case (and assuming Taniyama-Shimura) then the first significant update to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro family will come in late October early November this year, twelve months after the M1 machines disrupted the laptop market.

The successor is likely to be called the M1X and could power a new and upgraded version of the Mac Mini. When it comes to hardware, several reports point towards an upgraded version of Apple's custom M1 chip. Hardware announcements at WWDC 2021: M1X, Mac Mini, MacBook Pro, and (maybe) iPod Touch?
There are hardly any rumors or leaks around tvOS and watchOS, so we will wait to see what Apple has in store.
We can also expect to see improvements to x86-64 emulation on Apple's ARM-based M1 chip and see more collaborations to make more apps run natively on the company's hardware. 9to5Mac author Parker Ortolani suggests that "macOS 12" could be called either "Mammoth" or "Monterey" based on the trademarks filed by Apple. Unlike iOS, there's next to no information about the upcoming macOS version, except for rumors about its tentative naming.
